Opened in April 2024, The Shack ice cream parlor has quickly become a favorite among Marin residents. Located right on Magnolia in the heart of Larkspur, The Shack is the perfect spot to stop by and get dessert after enjoying a delicious lunch or dinner. Upon approaching, you are immediately captivated by its vibrant atmosphere, which adds to the joyful climate in downtown Larkspur.
The Shack’s menu is focused on classic items, as it provides a variety of staple ice cream flavors like chocolate, vanilla, mint chip and many more. Additionally, they provide a variety of milkshakes, root beer floats and toppings to go with your choice of dessert. Along with these toppings, the store offers the option to enhance your dessert with caramel, chocolate or marshmallow swirl sauce. For this article I reviewed two classic ice cream flavors: chocolate and mint chip. Along with those flavors, I decided to test out their espresso milkshake.
Chocolate Ice Cream
The chocolate ice cream was pleasant, however, it was super creamy. The ice cream’s rich, creamy and thick texture might appeal to those who prefer a more simple dessert, but for me, it lacked a special quality to set itself apart from other chocolate ice creams on the market. The price point is also quite steep, sitting at $8 for a single scoop. While this simple ice cream was tasty, it is hard to justify the high price.
Mint Chip
On the other hand, The Shack’s mint chip ice cream hits the spot, making it more preferable than the chocolate. This delicious mint chip had the perfect balance of creamy mint and a mix of chocolate chips. The mint flavor was strong but not too overpowering and the array of chocolate chips added an enjoyable texture to thetaste. Although the price is still steep at $8, I would say it is far more justifiable. This flavor is definitely worth trying upon visiting The Shack.
Espresso milkshake
The espresso milkshake was undoubtedly the highlight of my visit to The Shack. The strong, rich flavor of espresso was perfectly balanced with a creamy and rich consistency, providing a refreshing and satisfying treat. The milkshake had a slight bitterness that generously gifted my taste buds. Although this milkshake is the most expensive item on the menu at $12, it is a must-have item when visiting The Shack in Larkspur.
Open seven days a week, this delicious ice cream shop is a must-try for any Marin County resident, even though the cost is on the high end. It is a refreshing sweet treat that can top off a wonderful night and leave you satisfied.
