Photo Essay: Boys’ varsity soccer comes out strong in the second half to defeat Branson
January 11, 2023
On Tuesday, Jan. 10, the boys’ varsity soccer team trampled over the Branson Bulls in a tight Marin County Athletic League game. With the pouring rain having ceased just minutes before kickoff, the boys’ readiness was uncertain, but nevertheless, the team came prepared and ready to go. The game began with possession quickly switching back and forth between the Giants and the Bulls. While no goals were scored in the first half by either team, the game was played at a fast pace, and the boys went into halftime, determined to come out strong in the second half. After a motivational speech by Coach Will Finnie, the boys gained the momentum needed for the remainder of the game. This energy especially shined through as junior Thomas Griffin scored a game-winning goal with just 23 minutes remaining. Later in the half, senior Owen Swenson and junior Theo Vasicek also made goals of their own to secure the win. The game concluded with a score of 3-0, and as the season continues, Redwood looks to carry their momentum into their next game against San Rafael on Saturday, Jan. 14.
