On Oct. 9, 2025, one year after their loss to Archie Williams, the boys’ varsity water polo team triumphed in a 12-8 win over their long-awaited rivalry match. Junior Isaac Nikfar played crucial minutes during the game, ending with two powerful goals.
“It feels pretty good to take down the reigning champs,” Nikfar said. “I think it was just a great team effort.”
The game started rocky for the Giants as sophomore Beckett Kaye from Archie Williams kicked off the game with a stellar goal. This lead was cut short, however, by sophomore Storm Jackson and Nikfar, who each hit back-to-back shots.
“In the first quarter, I had two strong goals, one in six-on-five, one in set.” Nikfar said, “And then… the rest of the game, they had two guys on me, but it opened up guys on the outside and on the drive.”
Junior Maddox McClellan could attest to outside shooting and drives. McClellan finished the game with two goals, but multiple strong shots from the outside, displaying a ferocious offensive attitude throughout the game.
Senior Tyler Mahabir likewise shone during the match, playing crucial minutes for his first season with the team. Mahabir played vital moments on defense, especially during six-on-five exclusions.
The Giants are now in first place in the Marin County Athletic League and competed this weekend at the ‘Battle of the Creek’ tournament at Las Lomas High School. The team went undefeated against College Park, Monte Vista, Northgate and Buchanan High Schools, and will hope to extend their dominance when they go against Terra Linda this Thursday, Oct. 16, at home.
