On March 26, the City of Mill Valley and Tam High School College and Career Center hosted the Marin Youth Job Fair at the Mill Valley Community Center. The event aimed to help young job seekers take their first steps into the workforce by offering teens ages 14-24 the chance to connect with local employers, explore job opportunities and find internship resources. With 29 booths featuring businesses like Amy’s Drive Thru, Teaspoon Boba and Molly Stone’s, the event aimed to help young job seekers take their first steps into the workforce.
Joy Koo is one of the event organizers who helped make the job fair possible.
“We had more than 490+ young people registered to attend (ages 14- 24) along with numerous local employers,” Koo said.
In the end, over 550 people attended the fair, with over 80 volunteers helping. The community center was packed with kids from all over Marin. Radhika O’Connor, the manager of Amy’s Drive-Thru, represented the restaurant.
“The turnout is larger than expected; they told me it’s going to be big, but this is bigger than even I expected,” O’Connor said.
Daniel Filler is a student at Redwood who attended the fair, hoping to find a job to keep him busy during the summertime.
“I’m at the Job Fair looking for a job to continue for now and until college,” Filler said.
The Job Fair offers many resources to help interested teens apply for their desired jobs, such as resume workshops, easy application forms and more.
“I’m looking for about 15-20 (employees) to work during the summertime,” O’Connor said.
The first job fair was in 2023 and attracted over 400 young attendees; attendance is growing yearly.
The Marin Youth Job Fair would not be possible without its organizers, Dana Tuddle, Joy Koo, Tam Senior, Emerson Swift and Jim Welte, at the Mill Valley Chamber of Commerce.
Many sponsors, including Madrone Bakery, Whole Foods on Miller, Rocco’s Pizza, Peet’s Coffee, Good Earth Mill Valley and Woodlands Market in Kentfield, are all businesses that donated food for the event.
