On Tuesday, Dec. 10, the girls’ varsity basketball team faced off against Salesian College Preparatory, resulting in a tough loss of 44-52. The team had a slow start in the first half and was down by 13 points after the third quarter. However, the team brought momentum during the fourth quarter, ending the game with a loss of only eight points.
Junior captain Kitty White came out strong in the game and acknowledged the difficulty of bringing back the intensity as a team.
“It’s always really hard to come back and get points to tie with [the other team], but in the second half, we held our ground more. We shot the shots we were supposed to take and we dealt with the pressure a lot better,” White said. “I think [in the second half] we played our game instead of letting them control how we played.”
The Giants gave it their all on the court during the last quarter. Senior captain Ainsley Gallagher praised the team’s strengths and recognized the components to work on during their next game.
“I think we played well in that fourth quarter. We were down and we came out with intensity, trying to scale our way back and get back some points. And I think we did that,” Gallagher said. “[Salesian is] a good team, so even though we did get some points back, they kind of fought it off. But I think that [our] intensity and mindset was good. Providing that same intensity throughout the whole game is something [that] we could work on.”
Girls’ varsity basketball’s next game will be played against Acalanes High School on Thursday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m., in the Phil Roark Main Gym.
