The week of Dec 2. hosted four performances from Redwood’s music department, beginning on Tuesday with Concert and Symphonic Band Performances, followed by Wednesday’s Jazz Band Performance and then finally culminating with Performance Workshop’s Musical Presentations on Thursday and Friday.
The Jazz Band Performance took place on Dec 4. And Dec 5., featuring a set list of 16 songs. The concert began with a small rotating band of three to five musicians and grew until the entire Jazz Band performed together. Starting with “On the Sunny Side of the Street” and concluding with the entire band performing “Birdland,” the show lasted about two hours.
On Dec 5., members of Intermediate Performance Workshop and Advanced Performance Workshop took center stage at the Little Theater in their seasonal musical showcase. The concert consisted of a range of jazz, ballads and tunes from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Each number was accompanied by a variety of performers including vocalists, bassists, and pianists. After the final song of the night, music teacher Chip Boaz thanked the audience for continuing to support the program as well as the students for all the work put into the performance.
