In Marin, with endless nature and access to its inherent dangers, organizations like Marin Search and Rescue (SAR) are essential to keeping our community safe. SAR is a nonprofit organization that works in collaboration with the Marin Sheriff’s office to search for missing people throughout California, primarily in Marin. SAR is composed of 130 youth and adult members, ranging in ages and with heavy youth participation. Calivin Tudor, a Redwood graduate and former SAR member, commented on the empowerment he felt being a member.
“[It’s] inspiring because you’ll see youth members who are 16, being able to lead searches [and be] put in positions of power [to] make such a difference,” Tudor said.
