Friday Night Live dodgeball event succeeds

A team of sophomore boys won the second annual dodgeball tournament hosted by Friday Night Live last Friday.

Team Redneck, consisting of sophomores Erik Doctor, Auz Zadoff, Ryan Dudgeon, Nolan Cassidy, and Nate Orwig, defeated team Got-Scott in the championship round of the double elimination tournament.

Team Redneck surprisingly made it to the championship round undefeated.

Got-Scott beat the sophomore squad in the first game of the championship, but Team Redneck persevered on in the second game to win which earned them each a $30 Jamba Juice gift card.

“I’m surprised that we actually won it all,” Doctor said. “Especially since there were so many intimidating, older teams.”

Originally the championship team was scheduled to play a team of Central Marin Police Officers. However, due to several recent injuries, the police officers were unable to build a team to play.

Friday Night Live will continue to host events throughout the school year, such as a 3-on-3 basketball tournament.

“If you can choose on any given night to find something to do that doesn’t involve getting hammered, then we want to help you do it,” Hirsch said. “Anything any Redwood student would want to do on a Friday night, the sky’s the limit, and we want to help you get there.”

Friday Night Live offers high school students an alternative to binge drinking by

hosting different recreational activities. At their most recent event, there was an unprecedented number of participants including 32 teams of 5 individuals each.

“The ultimate goal is to change the v

iew of what’s normal in this community,” Hirsch said. “We fully accept that different people have different preferences for what to do on their Friday night, but there’s a misperception that the majority of people go out and get hammered.”
