On Oct. 26, Redwood commemorated their graduating football players and cheerleaders with a dominant senior day performance over the Justin Sienna Braves. Determined to win on their celebratory day, the Giants put in a full team effort to come out on top, ending the game with a 21-7 victory.
The game started slow, as the first quarter ended scoreless. Though, a fumble recovery by junior Ben Vaughn was crucial in preventing a potential touchdown for the Braves. The Giants however picked it up in the second quarter with pivotal plays from senior captain Ashlin Quach, who scored a run to give Redwood a 7-0 lead by halftime. Quach also had both an interception and a fumble recovery prior to halftime.
Going into halftime, both teams were determined to increase their offensive output, but only Redwood could do so with two more touchdowns in the 3rd quarter. Both touchdowns came from senior Sean Cunneen, who had an all-star performance running the ball. One of his touchdowns came after he broke a tackle on Redwood’s own one-yard line and ran it 99 yards. However, despite his efforts, Cunneen suffered from the penalties that haunted the Giants throughout the game and had an additional touchdown called back for a holding flag.
In the fourth quarter, Redwood was unable to score, while Justin Sienna capitalized on a drive following a fumble recovery from a missed snap. Although this brought the score to 21-7, the Braves could not stage a comeback before the game ended.
This win brought Redwood’s record up to a positive 5-4 while dropping Justin Sienna’s to 2-6. The Giants will be able to rest and recover with a by-week but will play an away game against American Canyon at 7:00 p.m. on November 8th the following week.
