On Wednesday, Oct. 9, the girls’ varsity volleyball team played longtime rival, The Branson School Bulls, in a grueling match. Both teams answered each other by scoring points back and forth, but ultimately Branson pulled ahead with a 25-15 victory in the third set. Redwood alum and California Governor, Gavin Newsom was also in attendance alongside families and students on either side.
Sophomores Maddie Wagner and Haley Boyarski each had some amazing serves and saves, but were eventually shut down by the Bulls. The Giants came close to winning the first set but were defeated 25-22. Senior Neeva Gaine also had a few shocking blocks and numerous aces that kept opposing hits at bay, but Branson powered through and won the second set with a score of 25-15. Redwood put up a huge fight and continued to play hard throughout the game, but Branson proved too strong to hold off. The Giants hope to clutch a win next week at home against Novato High School on Oct. 16.
