Art Space: More light, more space for creative minds

Renovation of a new art and music wing at Redwood started this fall and will be completed by the end of the school year.

An artist’s rendition of the new two story art wing that will be finished in 2013.

The new two-story building will replace the single-story Drawing and Painting classrooms. The wing will be 3,596 square feet, nearly twice as large as the previous building.

The new wing will be in the same footprint, or general shape, as the old one.

Art teacher Karen Meadows said she and her students are very excited about the new building.

“I’ve been in the portable for about 16 years. I love my room, but I hope for higher ceilings with more natural light. It’ll be exciting to have a new art space.”

The RHS Foundation has been discussing construction of a new art wing for several years, officially approving this plan last spring.

The funding for the construction came from a bond measure for a parcel tax.  The facility bond measure, which passed many years ago, funded facilital improvements across the district.

Construction hours will take place from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
