If you had blinked, you would’ve missed it.
The boys’ varsity soccer team won 3-2 in double overtime against Petaluma High School in the opening round of the North Coast Section (NCS) playoffs.
The game started on Wednesday, but was postponed less than four minutes into the second overtime due to darkness. The game resumed today with six and a half minutes left on the clock, however it only took the Giants 26 seconds to score, as junior Teymour Sadrieh knocked in a loose ball in front of the goal for the game winner.
Redwood got off to an early 2-0 lead yesterday, with goals from seniors Sasha Boussina and Luke Pfeiffer. Petaluma fought back in the second half, scoring a goal with 20 minutes left and equalizing with a penalty kick in the final minutes.
With the win, the team advanced to the second round of NCS, where they will play sixth seeded Maria Carrillo High School at Redwood on Saturday at 2:00 pm.
