National merit semi-finalists announced

National+merit+semi-finalists+announced

Five Redwood students were named semi-finalists for the National Merit Scholarship Corporation.

Seniors Samson Donick, Sophie Epstein, Stephen Morrell, Chloe Pfeiffer, and Liza Rodler are now among 16,000 top PSAT scorers that have earned a chance at 8,300 scholarships that total more than $32 million.

To qualify, students need to have a score in the 99 percentile range. Not all students in this range will be selected.

Additionally, 20 students were named as Commended Students. Angus Barkow, Julian Bonorris, Maverick Chen, Lorenzo Cico, Zach Dubin, Rachel Evans, Marnie Ginis, Aya Kawawa-Beaudan, Daniel Matteo, Jordan Moore-Butler, Josie Nordrum, Sasha Perigo, Casey Poore, Kai Rondio, David Russsell,  Michael Simmonds, Ben Suliteanu, Diana Tarrazo, Katie Woolard, and Stuart Yandell all received this honor.

Alexandra Bacchus also was also named an Outstanding Participant in the National Achievement Scholarship Program, an academic competition that honors black high school students. Outstanding Participants scored in the top three percent of the more than 160,000 students who requested consideration in the 2011 National Achievement Program when they took the PSAT.
