On Wednesday, Oct. 25, the girls’ varsity field hockey team faced off against Tamalpais High School (Tam) in their Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) semifinals. Redwood’s MCAL record before the game was 11-2-1, ranked first in the league, while Tam was ranked fourth.
The game started off rocky with Tam scoring a point in the first quarter, building a wave of anxiety throughout the team and those in the stands. The Redwood girls continued to play relentlessly, keeping the ball on Tam’s side and taking a few shots at the goal. None were a success until the fourth quarter when senior Sammy Haan made an impressive corner shot, tying the Giants with Tam 1-1.
The rest of the quarter went by in a flash, with hope from both teams that a player would score. The Giants continued to play offensively, leading up to sophomore Lucy Jeffers’s goal with only 47 seconds left on the clock.
This victory led the Giants to the MCAL finals, which are taking place at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 27 at Marin Catholic. Show up and show out to support the varsity field hockey team.
