On Oct. 7, the Blue Angels performed during the Fleet Week celebration over the San Francisco Bay. The Blue Angels screamed overhead to the delight of the spectators and were much anticipated as the Fleet Week celebrations are a yearly tradition for many residents of the Bay.
“[Fleet Week Celebrations are] something that unites all of the communities down by the Bay,” senior Maisie Pipitone said.
What many do not know about the Blue Angels is its origin — it was originally created in 1946 to “raise the public’s interest in naval aviation and boost Navy morale” (“History Of The Blue Angels”). When asked about this, Pipitone agreed that it achieved this goal.
“[The Blue Angels] evokes a lot of excitement from the crowd. [The Blue Angels] make people want to get involved and the Blue Angels are a really strong symbol for our country reaching new limits,” Pipitone said.
Senior Jolie Hagey agrees that the Blue Angels are something for the whole Bay to enjoy. Unlike others who may have been out on the water or along the shoreline, Hagey found a different approach to watch the show.
“We went to the Headlands and saw them from there,” Hagey said.
She was happy that the choice of venue did not detract from her experience, as even though she was in the Headlands, “They were going pretty close.”
Those along the shoreline and in boats seemed exuberant after watching the Blue Angels’ performance and the accompaniment of music from the shoreline added to that excitement.
