Model United Nations members will take a short break from writing resolutions this weekend to raise money for the club.
“We’re basically doing a garage sale,” said club treasurer Chelsea Rose. According to Rose, Model UN will be selling jewelry, sporting equipment, furniture, and more. The sale will take place on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the CEA.
According to Rose, the club traveled to a Model UN conference at Stanford last weekend, and will go to two more this year.
“We are raising money for our next conference and paying down our Stanford one,” Rose said. “We’re thinking of going down to Claremont McKenna in February, and we have another one in Davis in May.”
Rose said that conferences typically cost about $70 per person, plus hotel and transportation costs.
“We’re hoping to raise $500 [this weekend] through donations and the actual sale,” Rose said. “We’re going to have to do a lot more fundraising this year.”
