The girls’ varsity basketball team pulled out a 47-42 overtime win against St. Joseph in their third game of the Marin Catholic Ladycat tournament on Saturday, Dec. 6.
The Giants had lost their two previous games, and trailed St. Joseph up until the last moments of the game.
With 15 seconds remaining, sophomore Heidi Roenisch was fouled and sent to the line. She made both free throws, tying the game and sending the Giants into overtime.
“I knew I had to make them. The team was counting on me. We had worked up to this moment in practice,” said Roenisch.
With decisive baskets and strong defense, senior Danielle McCauley helped lead Redwood to a victory in the final minutes.
Although the Giants placed seventh in the tournament, Roenisch said she felt the team progressed throughout the process.
Their next game is on Dec. 9 against Montgomery High School in Santa Rosa.
