The Redwood Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble performed their first concert of the year on Thursday, Nov. 20.
Each band performed only three songs, making it one of the shorter concerts of the year.
“We’ve been working hard on these pieces since the beginning of the school year,” said senior Andrew Gutierrez. “All of our hard work paid off tonight.”
The musical selections spanned a multitude of genres, featuring favorites such as “Air for Band” by Erickson and “Molly on the Shore” by Grainger. Wind and percussion instruments dominated the repertoire.
The concert was held in the big gym, instead of the little theater or music room, which led to some noise issues since the basketball team was practicing at the same time. Mr. Mattern said the situation, while not ideal, wasn’t a big problem.
Group B of Intermediate Performance Workshop will perform on Thursday, Dec. 4, and Group A will perform on Tuesday, Dec. 9. Both concerts are at 7 p.m.
