Despite this year’s unique and beautiful setting of Prom, held at the Academy of Sciences, the ticket sales decreased compared to last year’s event.
According to ASB President Geneva Gondak, the Leadership class made less money because they expected more ticket sales than there actually were.
Compared to last year’s 640 ticket sales, this year the numbers dropped to a total of 587 tickets. Gondak said she thought that the decrease of ticket sales wasn’t necessarily because of the Prom venue.
“I think it might have been due to people who went to last year’s Prom and then possibly decided not to go again, or maybe juniors who decided it was too expensive and just decided to wait to go to senior year,” Gondak said.
In past years, the cost of Prom helped pay for Senior Frolic and Senior Breakfast at the end of the year. However, because not as many tickets were bought as they projected, Leadership had to come up with other ways to make up the cost difference.
“We don’t ever really profit off of Prom per se because we set tickets prices with a goal of breaking even, so we try to make it exactly what Prom is going to cost.,” Gondak said.
According to Gondak, the PTA is generously helping Leadership cover some of the costs of Senior Breakfast, but the class also plans to a hold a few more fundraisers before the end of the school year to make up for the money that they didn’t receive.
Gondak said that many people came up to her and complimented Leadership for choosing a more interesting venue. However, the one overarching complaint that Gondak heard was about the quality of the music.
“People didn’t dance as much, but then again we kind of expected it because the Academy has so many other activities that less people were drawn to the dance floor than last year’s, where there was just a dance floor and not really any other activities.” Gondak said.
