After the Advanced Drama senior class concluded their final play at Redwood just weeks ago with Motherlode, the Intermediate Drama classes will put on their final show this year before they make the leap up to Advanced status.
The show, Government Inspector, will run from May 14-18 in the Little Theater. The showtime is 7:30 p.m. for the 14-17th, with a 2:00 p.m. matinee on the 17th, and 7:00 p.m. for the 18th.
The comedy takes place in a small Russian town during the 1800s. The town in comprised of mostly “dumb” people, who overestimate a supposed government inspector, said sophomore Hannah Blazei, who plays the Hospital Director. They bribe him and try to do whatever they can to impress him, but we know all along that he is just a mere homeless man.
Four class sections perform the play, with leading actors including Kenneth Wong, Gavin Wong, and Hayden Smeltzer.
“We’ve been working hard on this since
the beginning of the semester. We knew we wanted to do a comedy, full length play,” said sophomore Zach Cohen, who plays the role of the school principal in one of the casts.
Cohen said that they had an option to do shorter plays, but felt they were ready to handle a full-length play.
Blazei and Cohen agreed that throughout the semester the classes have improved their understanding and execution of the jokes in the play, as well as their cast chemistry.
