The girls’ varsity basketball team dominated San Rafael in Tuesday’s game at Redwood sparked by contributions from the bench.

In the 59-32 victory, 11 of 13 Redwood players scored.  The Giants’ defense also controlled much of the game, limiting San Rafael’s offense by forcing many turnovers.

“We expected to continue playing pressure defense, and getting everyone to contribute on the offensive end” said head coach Diane Peterson.

Redwood finished the first quarter up 10-8, but expanded their lead 24-15 entering halftime.  Going on a 21-6 run in the third quarter gave the Giants a 45-21 at the start of the fourth quarter, which led to the 27-point victory.

Senior Ariella Rosenthal topped Redwood with 15 points, six steals, and six rebounds.  Coming of the bench, junior Danielle McCauley had four points and two assists to go with her three rebounds and one steal which electrified Redwood’s defense.

“Danielle brought a huge spark that we were lacking in certain points of the game,” Peterson said.

Redwood is now 1-1 in MCAL and 8-5 overall.  They play next at Branson tonight at 6:00.
