Homecoming couples revealed

T

he 2013 Homecoming Court couples are Luke Pfeiffer and Rachael Thorson, Matt Cummings and Bella Kashefi, Angus Cummings and Ariella Rosenthal, Matthew Friend and Chace Schornstein, Nora Wheaton and Tom Cline, and Adam Loo and Maddie Neukranz.

Court members are selected by the senior class. Once the votes are counted, a group of juniors in the leadership class pair the members to form couples.

According to junior Anyu Silverman, one of the students in charge of pairing couples, the nomination process is simple.

“Essentially each government or econ class takes a vote and they get to nominate any six boys and girls in the senior class,” said Silverman.

The seniors’ votes are taken and tallied on paper as opposed to online voting.

“We found that when elections happen online not as many people vote,” said Silverman.

“We pair them together based on who we think would work best together,” said Silverman.

Homecoming couples are paired together based on factors of compatibility, including common extracurriculars and whether two court members are good friends prior to their nomination.

“If they’re dating they typically get paired together,” Silverman said. “The goal is that everybody gets along and everybody likes their partner.”
