Ending in a resounding 19-5 win, boys’ varsity water polo faced off against Novato on Sept. 24, continuing their winning streak. In fact, the team has started the season perfectly, winning their first seven games and improving their league record to 2-0.The Giants started the game with seven unanswered goals and didn’t look back. They went into the fourth quarter up 14-3 and added five more goals, which were highlighted by a remarkable half court shot from junior goalie Owen Malone.
This was a clear team effort by the Giants as their depth of players and strengths were on full display, with 11 different players scoring in this blowout victory. Junior Charlie Poser played a key role in the Giants’ win, scoring two goals and drawing many fouls. Poser attributed the win and the Giants’ undefeated start to the season to star whole set senior Ossie Joplin.
“We have a very dominant set in [Joplin], who makes the defense drop; when the defense doesn’t drop, he scores,” Poser said.
Joplin led the way to a roaring victory, scoring five goals in the first half, which made him the lead scorer in the game.
The boys play next on Sept. 25 at a 6 p.m. away game against Tamalpais, with hopes that they continue to improve upon their perfect season.
