Varsity soccer team improves to 5-0-3 in MCAL with win over San Rafael

Led by strong performances from Sasha Boussina and Isaac Perper, the varsity soccer team defeated San Rafael 3-0 today at Redwood.

After a couple missed opportunities, Boussina scored the game’s first goal in the 35th minute. Perper worked hard to keep control of the ball in the midfield before rolling a perfect pass to Boussina right outside the penalty area, where he shot the ball just inside the upper right part of the goal.

SENIOR SASHA BOUSSINA receives a yellow card. Boussina scored a goal and assisted on another.
SENIOR JACK BUSHELL (far left) receives a yellow card. Bushell scored the second goal of the game for the team, while Sasha Boussina (center) scored once and added an assist.

Boussina also assisted on the teams third goal in the 67th minute after he stole the ball and placed a perfect cross for Teymour Sadrieh, who tapped the ball in for the goal.

Jack Bushell also added a goal in the 50th minute. He dribbled in from the corner and placed a shot in between the goalkeeper and the right goal post.

Bushell also received one of Redwood’s two yellow cards. Boussina got the other for arguing with the referee when a potential fourth goal was nullified.

Redwood controlled possession for most of the game, limiting San Rafael to no shots on goal in the first half.

San Rafael’s best chance came in the 61st minute when one of their forwards fanned on a well placed cross, but recovered to drive around a defender before being stuffed by Redwood goalie Brannon Dwyer, who played well allowing no goals.

With the win, Redwood improved to 5-0-3 in MCAL. They host San Marin next Wednesday at 4:00 PM.
