Varsity volleyball goes undefeated in first tournament

Going into the finals of the Albany tournament last Saturday, the girls’ varsity volleyball team was confident they could beat Monte Vista and come home with the winning title.

“We had played them earlier in the tournament and we had already beat them,” captain Rachael Thorson said.

They won the final 2-0, with scores of 19-25 and 12-25 sealing the tournament.

Now they are entering their season 6-0, after going undefeated.

They started the morning playing three games and reffing one before heading into bracket play where the top two team from each of the four pools competed for the title.

Senior Sierra Dawson was selected as the tournament MVP.

While senior Sophie DiGrazia led the tournament in digs and was chosen as an acknowledged player of the tournament.

However, according to Thorson, junior Bailey Osborn was the team’s kill leader in the final match and led the tournament in highest serve receives.

“Bailey didn’t get any acknowledgement but she played amazing,” Thorson said. “She was the rock star of the day.”

According to Thorson, the team will use this victory as motivation heading into the MCAL season. They play Friday at Novato at 6:00.
