Photo Essay: Giants suffer tough defeat against Marin Catholic to end their MCAL season

On Wednesday, Feb. 8, the fourth seeded girls’ varsity basketball team took on the first seeded Marin Catholic (MC) Wildcats in the Marin County Athletic League (MCAL) semi-final game.

Throughout the first half, the game remained very close as both teams played strong defense with many steals and fast break points. The Giants were energized by the crowd and ended the first half only down two points with a score of 23-21. Yet, despite the enthusiasm, a 9-2 run by the Wildcats in the start of the third quarter pushed the Giants down nine points.  Luckily, Redwood was able to use their timeouts to slow the Wildcats’ momentum down, allowing the Giants to start a run of their own and were only down six points entering the fourth quarter. Unfortunately, Marin Catholic extended their lead in the fourth quarter and won by a score of 51-38. Despite their loss and finish to the MCAL season, the Giants remain spirited for the North Coast Sectional tournament starting next week.
