Freshman basketball summer league wins with a promising team

This past summer, incoming freshmen boys competed in and won a summer basketball league, coached by recent graduate Joe Compagno.

The team, comprised of a number of freshmen boys that fluctuated throughout the summer, went undefeated in the league, beating out MC in the championship round.

The team only lost one game, in overtime, in a tournament that only six of their players attended.

Compagno said that talent-wise, this freshman class was among the best he had ever seen, perhaps even better than the famed 2010 team that went on to play in NCS.

The summer league consisted of many MCAL schools, as well as several others, such as Casa Grande and Petaluma.

“A lot of them hadn’t played basketball before, but they were playing like they had been a team for a few years,” he said.
