After the track boys’ pennant-earning season and the girls’ third place finish in MCAL, individuals who scored in the top three of their events moved on to the NCS Redwood Empire meet on May 18.

From there, 15 of Redwood’s finest track stars qualified for the North Coast Section Meet of Champions held on May 25 at UC Berkeley’s track.

Freshman Elly Lundberg, senior Alexa Bacchus, junior Lindsay Hendrickson, and senior Sophie Epstein were the only four Redwood athletes to qualify for the Meet of Champions’ finals.

Epstein finished first in the MCAL 3200 meter girls’ race and fifth at the NCS meet on May 18, respectively. She finished in 17th place in the Meet of Champions finals.

Hendrickson placed 15th in the triple jump and 11th in the long jump.

Lundberg won the high jump at the MCAL finals this season and later jumped a personal record of 5’2” at the NCS meet, finishing seventh.

The boys’ 4×100 meter relay team found success at the preceding Redwood Empire meet by finishing 0.2 seconds behind the school record, qualifying for Meet of Champions.

For some, the season came to a disappointing and unexpected end. Junior Fred Huxham suffered a season-ending injury to his left foot after finishing second in the boys’ 1600 meter race at MCAL.
