After the team graduated six seniors captain Maddie Bailey said that she never expected the girl’s soccer season to turn out the way that it did.

An early season loss to Marin Catholic did not stop the varsity girls soccer team from winning the MCAL title. After winning, Bailey said she had high hopes for an NCS title.

After moving through the first round with a bye, Redwood dominated Livermore with a 10-0 victory.

The team then faced eight-seed Head Royce in the third round. The game lasted over 100 minutes with two overtimes and a decisive penalty shootout.

After Chace Schornstein scored the first penalty kick, the Head Royce goalie saved both Sally Elton and Lauren Kuchman’s shots. The following penalty kicks scored by Maddie Bailey and Olivia Konttinen were not enough to secure the win.

The game ended with a score of 4-3, with Head Royce as the team who advanced.

“We definitely generated more chances and I don’t think they had one good offensive threat on us, but they managed to beat us in penalty kicks just because we didn’t perform the way we should have,” Bailey said.
