Marin gets juiced

With pressed juice gaining popularity with health fanatics and several fresh juice bars open in San Francisco, one couldn’t help but wonder when the juice craze would hit Marin – and it finally has.
Juice Alley and the recently-opened Pressed Juicery offer unique beverage options. They provide freshly-pressed juice, which is made with quality California produce and is packed with high nutritional value.
Juice Alley, located next to Paradise Foods in Corte Madera, has been open for over a year, but it has not gained the attention it deserves. The juice is made every night with seasonal produce from farms in Northern California and local farmer’s markets.

The best non-veggie juice is the cold-pressed coffee, hazelnut, raw agave, Himalayan salt and grapeseed oil juice. Surprisingly dairy-free, the juice is creamy and tasty without the heavy feeling of a frappuccino or a latte.
One of the downsides of Juice Alley is that it often runs out of juices, and often by 2 p.m. it’s cleared out. However, a new Juice Alley location will be opening in a few months at the Corte Madera Town Center.
The Pressed Juicery in Larkspur Landing is located outside, across from Belcampo Meats. The juice bar consists of just two refrigerators full of a large variety of premade vegetable and fruit juices, which are pressed each night from produce that is almost all from California.
There are four main categories of juices: greens, citrus, fruits, and roots, with several different juices under each category. Favorite juice so far: Greens 3. This smooth juice has kale, spinach, romaine, parsley, cucumber, celery, apple and a lemon and ginger kick.
If you are a regular at Jamba Juice or Starbucks, it may seem daunting to try something new, sans sorbet and added sugar, but the juices have natural sweeteners like fruit or raw agave nectar to add a little sweetness.
The Pressed Juicery offers 16 oz. juices for $6.50. Juice Alley offers 16 oz. juices for $10. 50.
