It is a Sunday afternoon in 2013 and my dad is driving our 15-year-old minivan home after a long day of basketball games. As he drives, I sit in the backseat of the car with my St. Hilary jersey on and start to doze off as we move past herds of cows and the arid environment surrounding them. The placid scenery stands still as we whiz by and the sun begins to set. As I slowly start to close my eyes, the faint music in the background suddenly grasps my attention. The song “Happy” by Pharrell Willaims starts to play and I immediately sit up and tell my dad to crank the stereo. In an instant, the dull and lengthy car ride home turns into a loud and slightly deafening experience as my siblings and I attempt to outperform the radio. Nostalgic songs such as this bring me back to childhood moments that I wish I could go back to.
