Varsity boys’ basketball falls to Branson

Varsity+boys+basketball+falls+to+Branson

The varsity basketball team kept it close for much of the first half, but a strong third quarter from Branson proved too much for the Giants to overcome on their way to a 57-44 defeat.

Although Branson was up just seven points at half, the Bulls dominated the third quarter with their size and rebounding ability to open up a large lead that would never be relinquished.

Joe Compagno and Samson Donick led the charge for Redwood in the first half, contributing 13 of 21 points. Donick finished with 14, while Compagno chipped in 13.

The Bulls appeared to penetrate the Giants defense at will and had many second chance points when Redwood failed to corral the rebound.

After going down 13 in the third quarter, Coach Steve Compagno switched his Redwood team to a full court press that helped narrow the lead and make it a 6 point game with five minutes left to play.

However, Branson quickly squashed any hopes of a Redwood comeback with a couple key three-point shots.

Redwood dropped to 10-10 (2-6 in MCAL), while Branson improved to 12-8 (5-3).

The Giants play next on Friday vs. Terra Linda at home. The game will be part of Redwood’s Game Night event.
