Donick, Heller recognized for preseason tournament achievements

Two Redwood basketball player’s skills were recognized in their respective tournaments over the past week.

Rachel Heller

Rachel Heller was named MVP of the Casa Grande Tournament in Petaluma last weekend, and Samson Donick made the all-tournament team at the Viking Tip-Off Classic hosted by Montgomery High School.

Heller scored 23 points and had 18 rebounds in Redwood’s first game on Thursday in a win against Windsor High School.  On Friday, she scored 12 points in a win over Eureka High School.

Heller said that she sustained a minor concussion during a loss to Casa Grande, the host team.  She scored four points before being injured.

Donick started his tournament with a nine points in a loss to Cardinal Newman High School.

Facing elimination, Donick led the Giants to a 73-59 victory over Cordova High School with 27 points.  The Giants won in the consolation game against Liberty High School to secure third place.

The varsity boys will be playing Kennedy High School at Redwood on Dec. 11. The varsity girls’ next game is at Livermore on Dec. 15.
