Gallery: Bands shine under spotlights of winter concert

The spotlights shone off of polished instruments last Thursday night, December 6. Students, teachers, and parents filed into a gym strung with holiday lights, their eyes adjusting to the otherwise dim setting. They sat, upright, in the rows of bleachers, waiting. All was quiet.

Music teacher John Mattern whipped his baton into the air, and let the sparks fly, the Symphonic and Wind Ensemble bands in a frenzy of dramatic crescendos that flowed seamlessly into gentle melodies. The following photos show the bands as they lit up the gym with the sounds of songs such as “Sanctuary,” “Overture to Candide,” and “Incantations.”
