Thriving Bay Area sports teams experience glory days

When was the best time for Bay Area sports?

Some may say 1989, when the 49ers won the Super Bowl, but they would be wrong.

Others might say 2002, when the A’s and the Giants dominated the MLB, but they would also be wrong.

The best year for Bay Area sports teams would be 2012.

In 1989, both the A’s and the Giants played in the World Series, with the A’s winning. The 49ers won the Super Bowl, and the Golden State Warriors made it to the second round of the playoffs – but this was not the best year.

During the 2002 and 2003 seasons, the A’s and the Giants each had 100-win seasons, the Giants made it to the World Series, the Raiders lost in the Super Bowl, and the San Jose Sharks hockey team even pitched in a division title – but this would also not be the best year.

There is no better time than the present for Bay Area sports teams.

The Giants just won their second championship in San Francisco, and the A’s shocked the baseball world by making it to the playoffs for the first time in six years.

The 49ers are one of the best teams in the entire NFL, and the Raiders are improving with their new quarterback and could potentially make the playoffs. Even the Warriors have a promising look with their young team.

Even the lesser-known Bay Area teams are among the best in their leagues. Although the San Jose Earthquakes were recently eliminated from the playoffs, they had the best overall record this season and recently finished construction on a new stadium. And when the lockout ends in the National Hockey League, who knows what the San Jose Sharks might be able to do, having made the playoffs in each of the last seven seasons.

Marin students tend to complain about the lack of things to do in the Bay Area. How about you go see the best sports teams in the country? These windows are only open for a brief time, so you should take an advantage of an opportunity like this.

Don’t let the Giants’ recent win eclipse other Bay Area sports teams. There’s a lot more to watch out for than just the World Series. Not even Chicago, Los Angeles or New York City have better teams, even though they seem to have dominated the sports world for the last 100 years.

Most fans in the Bay Area attach to one team. But you miss out on so much when you only pay attention to one sport or one team, especially when there’s so much else to watch. For the first time in over 20 years, Bay Area teams are finally the central power of all of sports. This is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. Enjoy every minute of this, because it may not happen again for another 20 years.

And for non-sports fans, get ready for a wave of Facebook statuses.
