Freshman girls’ basketball kick off preseason with a strong win

Freshman Katie Rose takes the ball down the court to set up a scoring shot for Redwood.

The girls’ freshman basketball team earned an easy victory against Alameda on Tuesday night with a score of 47-21.

Freshman Katie Rose helped set the competitive tone of the game through her scoring by strategically maneuvering the ball around the court and setting shots up for her team.

The Giants were a force to be reckoned with during the first half. Their powerful offense, led by Sophia Margulies, drove the ball down the court and quickly racked up points. The Giants took the lead early and kept pressure on the Hornets throughout the first half, driving the score to 19-8.

The Hornets rallied after halftime to try to chip away at the Giants’ lead, but weren’t able to gain traction. As the clock counted down in the third quarter, both teams played aggressively and racked up fouls. The Hornets responded with more pressure and put eight more points on the board.

Even though Redwood had a significant lead, it continued to push the ball and score points up to the last seconds, helping secure a win.

The team tips off again at home on Tuesday, Dec. 8 against Montgomery.
