On Friday, May 8, the boys’ varsity lacrosse team was defeated 9-7 in the MCAL finals by Marin Catholic High School. Despite the loss, the team will be ranked ninth going into NCS playoffs.

The Giants allowed Marin Catholic to score within the first minute of the game and then three more times before the Giants were able to put a point on the scoreboard.

“Good teams are going to go on runs and score goals and the entire team knows that, so even though they got off to a good start, we knew that we could come back and we did,” said senior Ethan Bear.

After a series of Redwood timeouts, the momentum shifted with a goal from both sophomore Jack Elders and junior Cole Schneider, and another from Elders with a little more than a minute left in the first half.

“I think we all just wanted to finish the game strong and we all played hard in order to make our last MCAL game of the season a good game,” Bear said.

With the Wildcats leading 9-4 with only a few minutes left in the game, the Giants called a timeout to set up a play. Once returning to the field, the Giants came out strong with one last surge. Senior Matt Tracy scored one goal, as well as another two from Elders, but it was not enough to clinch a win.

Redwood will play their next game at home against Davis High School on Wednesday, May 13 at 5:30 as part of the NCS playoffs.
