On Thursday, April 30, the varsity boys’ lacrosse team fell to the Novato Hornets in a 10-9 loss.

The Giants started the game with an early 4-1 lead, but the Hornets were able to catch up and hold on to their one point win in the final few minutes of the game.

“Going into the game we had great intensity, things were running smoothly and we were really pumped up and hoping to come away with a win,” senior Matt  Tracy said.

Redwood capitalized on this intensity as they scored first with a goal from junior Cole Schneider and then another three from Tracy.

With one minute and two seconds left on the clock in the fourth quarter, Redwood called a timeout to discuss a game plan. Only down by one point, Redwood held possession and made its way down the field.

“Our coach called a timeout and we all got together and discussed a play to get the ball down field. We made a few passes and it led to a good shot but it just didn’t go in,” Tracy said.

On an intense offensive charge down field with only thirty seconds left in the game, the Hornets’ tight defense gave up a penalty on an illegal hit against Schneider, allowing one more attempt to tie the game.

With a series of passes around the arch, Redwood attempted to get the ball to Tracy, their star attack, but the clock ran out before the Giants were able to get a solid shot on goal.
Redwood’s league record is now 5-2, and they will play their next game on Tuesday, May 5 at home against Tam.
