Boys’ soccer comes out victorious against Marin Catholic

The Redwood varsity soccer team narrowly defeated Marin Catholic on Friday, winning the match by a score of 1-0.

The Giants (8-2-2) overcame the Wildcats in a defensive duel that had the game scoreless through all of the first half and much of the second.

Sasha Boussina, junior, anchored the Giant’s offense in their 1-0 victory against Marin Catholic on Friday. Boussina currently leads the Marin County Athletic League in goals scored, with 15.

Going into the game, the Giants were confident about their chances of beating their rivals.

“Games against MC and Redwood are always bloodbaths,” Finnie said. “All of our players came off of the field pretty tired.”

The nothing to nothing tie was finally broken by junior Sasha Boussina late in the second half. He buried a twenty yard shot from the middle of the field that glided right past the outstretched arms of Marin Catholic’s goalkeeper, Tyler Shaver. It was the first and only score of the game.

“We never really panicked,” Finnie said. “Last year the story was different, but this year we’ve really focused and we’re never worried, even if we are down by two or three. In a zero-zero game, we know that we always have a goal in us.”

The team will travel to San Rafael for a game on Tuesday and then come back home to host Justin-Siena on Thursday for their last game of the regular season.
