Boys’ varsity basketball defeats Tam in defensive showdown

The boys’ varsity basketball team held on to victory against Tam on Tuesday night’s close matchup at Redwood.

Despite a slow offensive start and scoring only two points in the second quarter, the Giant’s pulled out the 60-54 win due in part to their aggressive defense.

“We held them to eight in the second quarter. [Coach Steve Compagno] said the offense would come and it did,” senior William Breck said. “Trusting our offense and sticking with our good defense won the game.”

Breck led the team with 21 points and 12 rebounds to go along with 13 points and seven assists from senior LaRon Bullock, and 12 points from senior Elliot Dean.

“This was a big team win,” Breck said. “It was close the whole time and earlier in the season we lost a couple of those games, but we were able to really pull it together in the fourth quarter.”

With the win, the Giants improve their in-league record to 5-2 and 12-7 overall.
