In the final game of the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Classic held at Marin Catholic High School on Monday, the girls’ varsity basketball team was defeated 36-29 in a last minute loss to the opposing Casa Grande Gauchos.

Although the score was close, senior Danielle McCauley was concentrated more on the game and not on the scoreboard.

“In the last quarter, I was focused on keeping myself and my teammates in the game. You can sometimes lose your head in the last quarter and that’s where it falls apart,” McCauley said.

Redwood was able to keep the score close throughout the whole game, but fell behind in as the the fourth quarter came to an end due to a strong finish by Casa Grande.

“In the last few minutes Casa Grande was able to pull ahead because we were playing sloppy. We started to focus on the fact that we were behind and then we started rushing instead of figuring out what we needed to do and pursuing it,” McCauley said.

Redwood now holds a MCAL record of 5-2 and will play their next game at home against Sir Francis Drake High School on Jan. 23 at 6 p.m.
