The girls’ junior varsity water polo team lost a home game against Sir Francis Drake High School on Tuesday, Sept. 30.

Although the game was neck and neck during the first quarter, Drake rapidly pulled ahead later on, winning the game with a score of 12-4.

The top scoring Redwood player of the game was sophomore Maddy Jarrell, who scored two out of the four goals. The Giants’other two goals were scored by freshmen Jemima Dominguez and Kaitlyn Yang.

“My philosophy is that I don’t care what the score is at the end of the game,” coach Frank Cardinale said. “I just like to see them moving the ball correctly, get something in, and if they get a shot off and they don’t score, I’m just happy to see they got a shot off. I think it went really well.”

Freshman Natalia Lazor believed that in order to beat Drake, the team could have done a better job on their defense.

“We didn’t really help our goalie out as much as we could have,” Lazor said. “We let a lot of girls go by without defending them and thats how they scored.”

The team will play its next game on Thursday, Oct. 2 against San Rafael High School.
