Girls’ varsity volleyball loses to rival Branson

In a rematch of last year’s MCAL Championship, the girls’ varsity volleyball team lost again to rival Branson on Friday night.

Despite graduating four out of six starters, the visiting Giants put up a fight against Branson, but they lost 3-1.

“Any time you’re even with a team and you play each other in the finals, it’s a fun rivalry,” said Redwood head coach Katie Pease. “We know we’re a young team, so we’re going to continue to get better and beat them in November.”

Redwood lost the first set 16-25 and won the second 25-22, but came up empty-handed in the end, dropping the final two games 17-25 and 18-25.

“I think offensively, we were able to go toe to toe, but our serving and passing wasn’t as high as it usually is,” Pease said.

Senior Bailey Osborn led Redwood with 16 kills to go along with junior Elly Lundberg’s eight kills.  Sophomore Mari Molina led the team with 38 assists, and junior libero Lily Barber had a game-high 18 digs.

With the loss, the Giants fall to second place in the standings, and have a current record of 8-1 overall and 4-1 in the league.
