On Wednesday, Oct. 22, the girls’ varsity tennis team faced Marin Catholic at the Bay Club Ross Valley in the last regular season match before the Marin County Athletic League (MCAL). The Giants ended up winning 5-2 .
Senior team captains Indah Herzenberg and Sienna Rouas both won their singles matches.
Rouas fought hard, losing her first set 3-6, but bouncing back right after winning her second set 6-0. She won her match in a 10-point tie-breaking game, closing it out at a final tally of 10-7.
Unlike Rouas, Herzenberg dominated both sets 6-2.
“I felt pretty confident going into the match. I thought that who I played was a pretty good competitor for me,” Herzenberg said. “But I just tried to find her weaknesses in the game and aim at those, so I am happy with the turnout and I kind of expected it.”
Sophomores Skye Gould and Caroline Simon also played an outstanding doubles match, taking the first set 6-3. They tied the middle game 5-5 but ultimately took the set 7-5 in a close match.
Junior Julia Povio and sophomore Scarlett Hackwell won their doubles match 6-1 in the first set and 6-3 in the second. During the second set, Povio hit a left-handed backhand that passed the defenders through the alley, putting them ahead and allowing them to win the second set.
Sophomore Alessia Bailliet also took the win, winning her first match 6-4 and the second 6-1.
Overall, the Giants played an outstanding match, finishing the day 5-2 and qualifying for MCALs. They play their first MCAL game on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
