The Redwood wrestling team went 1-1 on Wednesday at a “super meet” and is almost assured to finish in second place.

Redwood, Novato, and Terra Linda were all undefeated coming into the meet. Terra Linda won the meet to take over first place. Every MCAL team was present but only the three teams were eligible for first. Redwood has not won a championship since 1963.

In the first match against Novato, the Giants were down 27-0 in team points. But Riley Dow sparked his team, winning his match 16-3 in the 147lb weight class.

Besides forfeiting one because they don’t have a heavyweight, the Giants won every match from then on.

In the last match, with Novato still leading 106lb freshman Drey Brostoff, teammates call him MacDre, recorded an impressive to seal the victory.

“I had no idea we had a chance to win,” Brostoff said. “I didn’t find out we beat Novato until our group huddle.”

Redwood then lost to Terra Linda by 11.
