On Tuesday, Oct. 7th the girls’ varsity tennis team battled against the Novato Hornets to secure an easy victory despite sweltering heat. The match started in singles with junior Espy Cubillos and freshman Isabel Guttierrez defeating Novato 6-0, 6-1, 6-1 and 6-1, giving Redwood an early lead.
The team’s depth was on full display as the match moved to doubles, and the Giants continued their momentum. Juniors Isabella Marsh and Sabine Khan set the tone early, dominating their match from the beginning to secure 6-1 and 6-0 wins. Soon after, junior Lila Nahrgang and sophomore Kamilla Bashirova earned a victory after strong offensive play, scoring 6-0 and 6-4. Finally, sophomore partners Well Vonstroh and Skye Gould sealed the sweep scoring 6-0 and 6-0, to end the match.
Head Coach Tracey Porter reflected on the team’s performance after the match.
“I’m super lucky. I don’t know how all the other coaches in the area feel, but I feel very lucky to have these kids,” Porter said.
The girl’s next game is Thursday, Oct. 9, at Archie Williams.
