Looking for a yummy bowl place in Marin? Try Humbowl. This restaurant just opened in San Rafael, serves a variety of delicious and flavorful bowls. They offer different types of proteins, including chicken, shrimp, tofu and even a legume mix. These bowls can cater to multiple diets, including vegetarian, pescatarian and carnivore. The restaurant has a welcoming atmosphere, with the inside painted in an inviting pale green color and plants decorating every table. They have outdoor seating and to-go options as well. They also aren’t too expensive, with each bowl costing around $14 with an added protein. I tried three of their most popular bowls with different proteins. Here are my thoughts.

Togarashi
This Japanese-inspired bowl was fantastic. The bowl consists of togarashi, a Japanese seven chilli spice blend, mushrooms, zucchini and a brown rice and quinoa blend. For the protein, I added tofu. The vegetables were super fresh and roasted with the spice blend to perfection. The cilantro ginger vinaigrette was very tangy and had a hint of spice. The tofu was super smooth and was almost crispy on the outside. The quinoa and rice blend was a bit bland but the tofu and the vegetables added flavor. There was enough sauce to smother the bowl’s ingredients, but my only note is that the sauce has an overpowering cilantro taste.

Thai Curry
The Thai Curry bowl was definitely my favorite. It came with mushrooms, zucchini, sweet potatoes, the quinoa blend and a coconut curry sauce. I also added chicken. The sauce was super creamy and was the flavor of the bowl. The hint of coconut added extra depth to the sauce. Yet again, the vegetables were roasted to perfection and basically melted in your mouth with each bite. The chicken was the right consistency, with a hint of garlic and other spices in each cube. All the flavors are mixed to create a very pleasing and superb bowl.

Vera Cruz
This last bowl was my least favorite. It tasted like a deconstructed taco but without the seasoning. It came with avocado, tomatoes, black beans, red bell peppers, the quinoa blend and a pasilla pepper sauce. The vegetables were cooked the same as the others, but I advise not getting the bell peppers, as they didn’t fit with the bowl very much. The black beans were a bit bland, as well as the quinoa blend. The sauce was a tad spicy, but nothing special. I also added tofu, which was delicious on its own, but didn’t mix well with the other ingredients. The bowl was still good, but it was just not my favorite.
