The latest installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), “Thunderbolts,” premiered on May 2nd

and immediately received incredible support from both movie critics and general fans. The movie, directed by Jake Schreier, is rated 89 percent on Rotten Tomatoes by critics and 93 percent by the general public. Featuring returning characters from past Marvel films, such as the Winter Soldier and Yelena Belova, it is an action-packed sci-fithriller. However, the film also delves into deeper issues surrounding loneliness and the feeling of not belonging.
Thunderbolts is a must-watch because it is a precursor to many future Marvel films. After the end of the Infinity Saga, with many of the former Avengers dying in the “Avengers: Endgame” movie, the Marvel Universe was left with many important decisions to make surrounding the future of their franchise.

The characters in Thunderbolts start as a group of misfits who were all hired to eliminate each other. However, they bond over a commonality: they don’t want their former boss, Contessa Valentina Allegra De Fontaine (Val) — played by Julia Louis-Dreyfus — to succeed and get away with crimes in which she has commited. The main character, Yalena Belova’s father, is also a member of the Thunderbolts and plays as a Soviet super soldier. The film’s focal point comes when Val successfully creates a super soldier to use for her good. However, things go haywire as the super soldier, Sentry, grows confused and lonely, turning into a complete void of darkness. Eventually, he shuts down New York City. It is up to the Thunderbolts to resolve the crisis and convince the ‘Void” to snap out of it.
Overall, I would recommend this movie due to its constant action and evolving storyline. It dives deep into the importance of managing your emotions and recovering from your past. Ultimately, I would rate the movie 4.5/5 stars because it’s a phenomenal watch and steps into the future of the MCU. After watching this movie, there is a clear reason why the movie has ranked first in viewership in cinemas across the world. Its deep storyline and the return of multiple characters create a captivating storyline for many long-time and new Marvel fans.
