As one of the most high-spirited players on the field, Amelia Burke, or “Chippy” as her teammates call her, has shown her brilliance as a lacrosse player, being recognized as one of the top players in California.

Burke earned a first team all-MCAL title as a junior and this season won the MCAL Player of the Year. Originally a soccer player, Burke has dropped all other sports and devoted her attention to lacrosse.

“I played a bunch of other sports like soccer and basketball in middle school,” Burke said. “Then in high school I decided to make lacrosse my main sport as that was the one I loved the most.”

Her success has gained the attention of many coaches around the league, as well as recruiters from Division I collegiate programs.

“Being recruited was a fun experience,” Burke said. “It gives you incentive to do your best, even if games don’t matter. It’s pretty fun to have people come and watch you play.”

Burke, who eventually chose to play for UC Berkeley, said she looks forward to playing at the collegiate level.

“I’m super pumped to play at Cal,” Burke said. “I can’t wait to play at the next level, against players who are really good.”

Nicky Ford, senior, predicts Burke’s enthusiasm towards the sport will bring her success in college, as it was a major factor in the team’s MCAL title this season.

“Chippy’s lively personality helps the team in so many ways it’s hard to narrow it down to one thing,” Ford said. “Everything from making the most boring drills fun to inspiring us at halftime, has led us to where we are today.”
