Wise Sons wows with gourmet pizza bagel

I spend a lot of my time eating bagels. I’d consider them one of my favorite foods and with Larkspur Landing soon to adopt its newest bagel shop, Wise Sons Bagelry, I had to try their sister bagelry on Fillmore and Geary. A new Larkspur location is set to open in the coming months, and Wise Sons’ Instagram teased this idea recently in hope

s of getting their avid bagel-loving followers excited for the grand opening by snapping a photo of the front doors of their new shop in the Larkspur Landing Mall.

Wise Sons Bagelry in San Francisco is squeezed between two buildings with a  glass exterior. There were a few people in the building, but it wasn’t busy in the late morning when I arrived. The employees were welcoming, and it was easy to communicate my orders with the man working behind the counter because of his open and chatty manner.

The menu was simple and concise with options to customize the bagels. I ordered a pizza bagel because the employee said that it was one of their best items. Other popular items included the smoked salmon bagel and

the smoked trout bagel. With no idea what to expect, but since the only other pizza bagel I have eaten in my life was from the CEA, I knew from the start it would have to be truly distasteful to lose to that competition.

Within ten minutes, I received a plain bagel toasted to perfection with a fine red tomato sauce, melted mozzarella cheese and a single basil leaf. It was pleasant to eat. The cheese was perfectly cooked atop the bagel. The effort put into the bagel was actually surprising since my first impression of the restaurant was it was a place where you could grab some quick food. The tomato sauce was fresh and there was a relatively short wait time.  However, it was a bit colder than expected when I received it. I finished the bagel

before taking another breath, which I regret because I wish I could have savored it a bit more. It was definitely a filling meal, and left me feeling perfectly satisfied.

If you are willing to travel to the city for a tasty bagel, Wise Sons is a great place to stop by for a quick meal. If you aren’t a die-hard bagel fan, I would recommend simply waiting until the new restaurant opens in Larkspur Landing this spring. The bagel wasn’t life changing, but it was tasty enough that I might just be the first person in line for my second pizza bagel high when Wise Sons opens in Larkspur Landing.
